#37 Research/Planning – Scene Inspiration That Actually Made the Cut

Hey everyone, Adrian here. In this blog, I want to talk about scene inspiration and, for once, one that is actually making it into the film. I’ve talked about a lot of inspirations throughout this project, but if we’re being real, most of them ended up in the cut stash. The FPS video game style opening scene is gone. The Breaking Bad inspired tactical cleanup scene with Mike is also gone. As much as I love that moment and how smart and cold it is, it just doesn’t fit within the reality of a five minute film. Time is tight, and every second has to push the story forward. If it doesn’t, it gets cut, no matter how cool it is.

That Breaking Bad scene especially hurt to let go. The idea of using a hostage as a silent spotter and landing a blind shot through the wall is insane from a filmmaking and storytelling standpoint. But again, it would have required too much setup and too much runtime to do it justice. We’d rather focus on fewer scenes and execute them properly instead of cramming in moments that feel rushed or underdeveloped.

Now for the inspiration that is staying. The ending. More specifically, the final scene of Breaking Bad where Walter White dies. The camera slowly pans up while looking down at his lifeless body as “Baby Blue” by Badfinger plays. That exact tone is what I want to capture for the ending of this film. After Matheus is killed by Adrian, the focus shifts away from action and straight into consequence. Adrian escapes, police rush into the house, and the camera lingers on Matheus bleeding out on the floor. No victory, no celebration, just silence and aftermath.

This ending fits perfectly with the story we’re telling. The job was never about money. It was personal. And instead of ending the film with adrenaline, we end it with reflection and weight. That Breaking Bad finale proved you don’t need dialogue or explosions to close a story. You just need the right framing, the right music, and the courage to sit in the moment. That’s exactly what we’re aiming for here. More updates coming soon.
