#3 Preliminary – My Media Skills Audit

Hey everyone, Adrian here. I wanted to reflect on some of the things I feel proud of from my film production and what I know I need to improve.

One of the strongest aspects of the film was our use of mise en scene, especially through costume, props, and setting. For example, my character started off as a weird, awkward high schooler dressed in all black symbolizing emotional distance and social discomfort. But as the story progressed and the connection with Tati’s character grew, my costume subtly shifted to a cleaner, more neutral look. Tati’s character also went through a similar transformation starting as a pop off, high energy presence and later adopting a calmer, more grounded style. These changes were done on purpose to reflect the growth of their relationship and how they influenced each other. It’s the little details like that that really help bring characters to life.

We also nailed the planning and organization. Even after ditching our original plan, we adapted quickly and still met the deadline. That flexibility really paid off.

While I’m proud of many things, I also have to admit that sound quality was a major issue. During the store scene, the background music was blasting something we didn’t think through while filming. It really made the dialogue hard to hear. I tried using audio cleanup tools, but it still didn’t sound perfect. The beach scene also had strong wind interference that messed with the clarity of the dialogue. I did my best to fix it, but in future projects, I want to take audio more seriously using proper mics, scouting quieter locations, and doing more tests before shooting.

I also need to get better at applying media theories. I tried to add some, but they didn’t really stand out. That’s something I’ll work on more in future projects.

Overall, I’m proud of what I created and how much I’ve learned throughout this process. There’s always room to grow, and I’m excited to take all of these lessons into the next project!
