#8 Preliminary – Post-Filming Update: 1 Minute Scene Wrap-Up

Hey everyone, Adrian here. We wrapped up filming our 1 minute horror scene today for the preliminary task. Everything flowed well, but there were some adjustments on set we had to make last minute.

What Worked

  • We stuck to over the shoulder shots of the killer (Jerry) to build suspense and avoid revealing too much.
  • Used high angle shots looking down on the victim to show her weakness and fear.
  • Low key lighting and cluttered mise-en-scène in the garage added to the creepy, gritty tone.
  • Switched the original idea, Tati wasn’t tied to the chair like planned. We had her on the floor, hands and legs tied, blindfolded and taped. Worked way better visually.
  • No smoke machine, but the lighting + shadows gave the same eerie effect.

What Was Tough

  • The blood splatter was hard. We didn’t want to mess up the garage with a real effect, so we used a spray as a cleaner alternative. It still got the job done, just not as dramatic.

What’s Next

I caught some funny bloopers during filming, can’t wait to show them. Right now I’m stressing a bit over how to cut it all down to 1 minute, but I’ll get it done. It’s all part of the learning.

Postcard and social media campaign will probably go down the next day. My focus for right now is editing and wrapping everything up clean. So far, I’ve been trimming the clips to have a foundation already, then ill get into the technical stuff like sound effects, filters and other editing techniques

Catch you on the next update.
